Poison
Poison is a fascinating thing. Poison is something that is bad for you when ingested. It can cause serious illness or even death. When injected into the body either through a venomous bite, ingesting it, or taking it in through other means, poison can really do some damage to your body. Most poisons have the ability to kill, especially if enough is taken or if you take the right poison.
When it comes to poison, it can either exist in nature or be manufactured. The overall affect is the same though. Poison has the ability to kill unless the person gets treatment or simply gets lucky. The human body cannot process certain chemical compounds and structures. That means that certain chemicals can harm the human body. These chemicals are called poisons. And not all substances need to be swallowed in order to be considered harmful. Some can enter through the pores in your skin and through other methods.
A lot of people may not realize it, but a lot of us have poisons in our home. Anything that could kill insects, for example, could also be harmful to the human body. Ant spray is one such example. Other household items such as cleaning fluid can also be considered poisonous. This is especially problematic if you have small children or pets that tend to get into things. Some poisons could look tempting, like juice, to a child. But they are extremely dangerous.
The poison control center is a hotline service filled with people who are knowledgeable about poisons and what to do to help. Different kinds of poisons have different things you can do about them. Some poisons need to be expelled by vomiting. Others can be neutralized by drinking milk or water. In each instance of poisoning it is a good idea to call the emergency medical services to continue with the treatment. There is only so much the Poison Control Center can help you with.
If you have small children it is a good idea to make your home kid-friendly. This means going through and making any poisons that you may have inaccessible to the kids. You can either put them out of reach or put them in a locked closet or cabinet, or both.
